2022 Membership Appreciation, Job Fair & New Member Orientation

MemberAppreciation.jpgPMIGL is planning a special event to show our appreciation for our members who have chosen to join and be a part of our chapter. We know that our growth is, in part, due to your choosing us and we would like to express our thanks to you. 

Cost is only $10 for members and non-members. Paid PMIGL members who attend will be reimbursed the $10 fee after the event. Non-members will not be reimbursed, but will be invited to a happy hour event at no cost. Learn more and register.

Spring Symposium Presentation Videos Available On Demand

Ondemandvidoes.jpgAll Symposium presentations have been recorded and are available on demand. Symposium registrants will have access to these sessions through December 31, 2022. Please self-report the PDUs for viewing the additional on demand sessions. The PDU code will be displayed at the end of each session.

We're Looking for Volunteers

PMIGL is always looking for members who want to be more involved with the chapter. This is a great way to support the growth of the chapter and earn valuable PDUs for re-certification. We are currently in need of volunteers for a number of committee projects in progress. Our current openings include the following:

  • Manager, Symposium
  • Manager, Speaker Contracts
  • Manager, Military Outreach
If you are interested in helping with one of our committee projects, please fill out the Chapter Volunteer Information Form and send it to our Director of Volunteer Program and you will be put in touch with the committee chair.

Quarterly Construction Quality Management Panel Discussion

Construction Quality Management Community of Practice holds a quarterly meeting every last Tuesday of each quarter to discuss topics that would benefit our community in improving their processes and procedures for better quality management using the latest best practices shared by our members. 

Our theme for 2022 is Digital Transformation for Construction 4.0 and for the third quarterly meeting in September, we will invite guests to speak on the topic of Digital Twins for a Construction 4.0 Quality Management.

For our September 2022 event, Managers from Unity Technologies will present their Digital Twin Solutions to improve Construction Project Quality for our AEC Industry. 

CQM events are free and open to all professionals and students.

PMIGL Volunteer Spotlight, Marie Lee

Lee,Marie-Med_Res.jpgEvery quarter I have the privilege of telling a great story. I would like to introduce Marie Lee. She is a Manager of Access Care Technology in Virtual Care at Henry Ford Health System. Marie deploys telehealth programs throughout the health system. Her career started with Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) in 2007 as the Training Coordinator for the Contact Center, the centralized appointment scheduling hub for 600 system’s providers. Marie was engaged with the project team related to the electronic medical record system, Epic, with a project scope of 3 years and $300M. Learn more about Marie.

A Project Manager’s View of the Value and the Costs of Higher Education

Ask any parent of a university student about the spiraling costs of higher education – be ready to duck for cover. College costs seem out of control while the value of a college degree seems increasingly dubious. My perspective on this topic may come across as biased and self-serving. However, my longtime association with higher education [tenured professor, adjunct instructor, and employee] is tempered by my lifelong career in project management. 

In this article, I will offer my Project Manager view of the value and the costs of Higher Education. My commentary follows an adage of Henry Ford II [aka Hank the Deuce] – no apologies, no excuses.
